Northfields (WA) Pty Ltd has provided services in the Goldfields since 1994. The company has embraced the changes that have occurred within the mining industry during this time and has continued to grow accordingly. We have placed particular emphasis on developing sound health and safety practices, and have succeeded in keeping abreast of the rapid changes that have occurred in these areas during the last 2 decades.
We have been able to grow through the efforts of our loyal, multi-skilled workforce. Capable of turning their hand to any task asked of them, our staff remain with us because we are able to keep them busy and pay them well.
Our people are able to undertake remote area works. Whether it be construction, exploration, road works or maintenance our crew are equipped to be fully self sufficient before the site amenities have been set up.
In October 1994, Ben and his cousin Jamie established Northfields Contracting, after spending a number of years based in the goldfields, in Leonora and Leinster, Western Australia.
During this time Ben worked in a variety of fields, including station work, working in the local store owned by his family, and as a contract machine operator at various mine sites around the Goldfields.
Ben works in the organisation as a Managing Director, liaising between the Kwinana and Leinster sites. In his role as Managing Director, his focus is on estimating projects, and managing the organisation. In his time as part owner and Director of Northfields (WA) Pty Ltd, he has seen the company grow into the business it is today.
Ben has completed many administrative and management courses, and holds operator tickets for all machinery and plant operated within Northfields (WA) Pty Ltd.
Ben has always been an active member of the communities he has lived in, spending many years as a councilor at the Leonora Shire, and holding many executive roles on various community group committees in Leinster and Leonora. Since moving to Perth, Ben has been involved with the Rottnest channel swim, skippering the Bondi rescue team to the island during their race. His current interests include Cycling, Tae Kwon Do, Boating, Kayaking and Hiking.
James has been involved in Northfields (WA) Pty Ltd since he and his cousin Ben started the company in 1994.
Prior to this, Jamie did a lot of work in isolated areas constructing windmills, fiberglass tanks and fences, and mustering. He also worked for over 10 years in the mining industry in the Goldfields, and has had extensive experience as a machinery operator.
Jamie is one of the Managing Directors of Northfields (WA) Pty Ltd, where he focuses most of his time on project management, procurement, and estimating. Some of Jamie's achievements include maintaining a stable workforce in transient towns such as Leinster, and managing up to 100 concurrent projects over a number of locations, ensuring that they all run to budget and to schedule.
In the years he has worked as a Managing Director of Northfields (WA) Pty Ltd, Jamie has developed high level project management and scheduling skills that he applies to his work within the company. He also holds tickets for all types of machinery operated by the organisation.
Jamie's interests include camping, fishing & target shooting. In 2012, Jamie flew his helicopter to Leonora for his first cross country navigation exercise, and has recently completed his helicopter pilots licence. He has also spent over 15 years as an active member of the Leonora Volunteer Fire Brigade.
Alex joined Northfields (WA) Pty Ltd in 2004, after completing an Indigenous Training Program at Leinster Nickel Operation.
In his role as Leinster Area Manager, Alex is responsible for supervision of the Goldfields workforce. He is also responsible for setting tasks and for ensuring timely completion of set works. In addition he oversees completion of works to ensure that company policies and safe work practices are adhered to.
As well as holding licenses to drive all the machinery owned by the business, Alex has completed courses in Field Leadership, Supervisor and Management training, cultural awareness, and working at heights.
Alex has been actively involved in several community organisations, including serving as a volunteer in the Leonora Fire Brigade for several years. He is currently a Leonora Shire Councellor, and a committee member on the Leinster Golf Club and the Leinster Race Club. His interests include indoor cricket, golf, camping, fishing, prospecting and playing the drums.
Having worked in the Civil, Commercial and Industrial Construction Industry for the last 22 years, Justin brings a range of skills and attributes as Operations Manager to the Northfields Team. Trade Certified as a Carpenter Joiner, with an Associate Diploma in Architecture and mostly through completing his Diploma of Building, Justin is a fully ticketed machine operator, who during his working life, has predominately been engaged as a Supervisor/Estimator.
Joining us at the beginning of 2016, Justin has an in-depth understanding of the construction process to provide improved efficiency and effectiveness to any construction project. This broad knowledge and key areas of expertise allows Justin to plan all construction operations and schedule intermediate phases to ensure desired results are met, whilst fully complying with all policies and procedures.
A keen surfer, Justin also spends much of his spare time boating, water skiing, camping and travelling with his young family.
Chris has extensive experience in construction prior to joining Northfields, having worked in heavy industry since 1984. In 1990, he received his Certificate of National Higher Diploma Mechanical Engineering followed by a Certificate of National Diploma for Metallurgical Engineering in 1996.
Since moving with his family to Australia in 2006, he has been involved in many remote mine site projects including Telfer, Nifty and Newmont. In 2015, Chris spent 18 months in PNG as a Planning Consultant, followed by 2 years in the DRC as a Maintenance Superintendent.
Chris commenced with Northfields (WA) Pty Ltd in January 2019. Appointed as our Construction Manager for our Remote Sites, Chris is out in the field, coordinating and overseeing a wide variety of projects, making daily decisions from commencement to completion. With a strong mining, business and engineering background, Chris has the capacity to interpret technical information, estimate, schedule and deliver projects within budget, whilst ensuring conformance with all Safety and QA Policies.
Chris spends much of his spare time 4-Wheel Driving, Repairing / Modifying Nissan Patrols and Photography.
Christie is our highly skilled and efficient office manager. She comes to us with over 15 years' experience in customer relations and over 4 years' experience as a business development manager.
Coming from a small country community in Southern Western Australia, Christie places a high value on establishing and maintaining strong Business to Business relationships and is extremely organized, approachable and proficient in effective communication.
A qualified Personal Trainer and an avid Netball player, she regularly participates in local sports and is an active promoter of healthy lifestyle choices.
